Japan – Age-Gyoza (揚げ餃子)

Jiaozi is the Chinese form of dumplings that has the Japanese variation of Jiaozi is GYOZA. This is originated as traditional Chinese medicine. There are different names for the Gyoza of different countries and for different ingredients, the cooking method also.

Japan – Chinmi: Salt-pickled Mullet Roe/ Kusaya

This is a Japanese delicacy and is supposed to be the rare and expensive food of Japan. It is Pickled seafood by adding preservatives. To name this delicacy, there is a common sentence used as ”THREE CHINMI OF JAPAN”: Kusaya(くさや), Funazushi (鮒寿司) and Kurozukuri(黒作り). The history of Japanese cuisine revolved around the main three ERA: KOFUN PERIOD from 3rd to 7th centuries followed by Yamato dynasty, and then the New Periods.

Japan – Takikomi Gohan

Takikomi Gohan is a bowl of Japanese rice tossed with dashi, soya sauce, broth, and can have the addition of vegetables and meat into it. This dish has a lot of varieties and different versions of the same dish by having different combinations of vegetables and meat. It can be your comfort dish or a heavy meal to be served on dinners, festivals like Japanese new year’s eve, etc.

Japan – Kabocha and Ayu Tempura With Tentsuyu Sauce

Tempura is a fried dish in which any seafood and vegetables are dipped into the batter of eggs and flour to deep fry it. This dish has many roots from the world while having the name, origin, and cooking techniques. In 1671, the cookbook called “料理献立抄” was written and it has the recipe still used in making the tempura. Tokyo bay was made a great change in Japanese cuisine and still we have the dishes of “Tokyo style (Edo style)”. There are many variations of the dish outside Japan.

Japan – Sashimi

Sashimi is a Japanese cuisine dish. It is a very simple but popular dish, this is not the main course but loved by every Japanese people to enjoy it as wholemeal or the main course. Cooking is not even included in making this dish and served with the most famous MISO SOUP, or as a good bowl of rice. SASHIMI means pierced meat. Like Sashi means ”pierced” and mi means ”meat”.

Japan – Japanese Curry Rice (karē raisu)

Curry is basically a gravy made up of some specific ingredients, spices, yogurt, cream by adding vegetables and meat in it. karē raisu is Japanese curry. It is served on rice with some vegetables that are pickled. This is thick stew-like gravy or curry. This dish is first time introduced at the MEJI ERA and, the first dish was KARE RAISU. It is also a very popular story that Japanese curry is used to cure BERIBERI disease. For Japan, Japanese curry is the national dish of Japanese cuisine.

Japan – Khushikatsu

This dish has huge elements to go through the name but it is simply said that this dish is deep-fried, skewered, cutlets of meat and vegetables. The name ”Khushi” means ”Skewers”. And ”Katsu” means ”Cutlets” which is definitely deep-fried. In Tokyo, this dish is famous for pork meat, while food on skewers is originated from Osaka.

Japan – Raindrop Cake

Raindrop cake; is not it look like a piece of art or something. This is a zero calories dessert in which we can have only two or three ingredients and you come up with a unique dessert like an art piece. This is very clear and crystal dessert so felt like a raindrop.

Japan – Kakigori (Japanese Shaved Ice Dessert)

Kakigori is a dessert that is made up of Crushed and shaved ice with having flavors and sweet syrups. Japanese Shaved ice dessert is served with sweet syrups, some fruit chunks, condensed milk, evaporated milk. In summer, this dessert is sold every where in Japan like, dessert shops, tea café, tea stalls, ice cream stalls, etc. This dish is originated in Heian Period in which ice from the mountains bring and topped with flavors.

Japan – Korokke

This dish is a Japanese deep-fried version of YOSHOKU. This is a type of CROQUETTE, which is actually a deep-fried or shallow-fried kind of cutlets. This dish is made as a snack, like a dinner and then it is usually cooked at the festivals like Japanese new year. Different kinds of korokke is cooked and sold in Japan.
