Pakistan – Traditional Naan Chanay with Lassi and Salad

Introduction

Naan chanay with lassi and salad is a famous breakfast in Pakistan. This yummy breakfast is so appetizing and the aroma is so flavorful. On every sunday morning market are full with this mouth-watering breakfast. People wait for hours in line to get this dish. The chanay are served with gravy and salad. In English chanay is called chickpea. You can also eat chanay with bhaturay. This dish is a hit for sunday breakfast. There are many types of chanay you can eat with naan:

  • chikar chanay
  • murgh chanay
  • qoila chanay
  • Punjabi chanay
  • achari chanay
  • degi chanay

Lassi is one of the most consumed beverages in Pakistan. This yummy drink is rich in taste.This is a refreshing drink especially in summers. The lassi is prepared by beating the milk until the butter came on the top. This drink has dry fruits on the top. Naan chanay is incomplete without salad. The salad includes sliced onions, tomatoes, cucumber, reddish, carrot etc.

Ingredients for making chanay

  • chanay (boiled) 1 kg
  • masoor daal (boiled) 1/2 kg
  • medium onions (chopped) 2
  • tomatoes 1 large
  • ginger paste 2 tbsp
  • garlic paste 2 tbsp
  • chili powder 2 tsp
  • salt 1 tbsp
  • baking soda 1 tsp
  • yogurt 1 cup
  • cumin 1 tsp
  • carom seeds 1 tsp
  • cardamom 4
  • cinnamon stick 1
  • black pepper 2 tsp
  • cloves 1 tsp
  • cooking oil 4 tbsp

For garnish

  • green coriander chopped
  • ginger thinly sliced
  • green chili chopped
  • chaat masala

Method of cooking

Step 1

take a cooking pot and add cooking oil and fry for 5 minutes.Now add the tomatoes and fry for 3 minutes.Now add 1 cup of water and cover the lid.When the water dries mash the tomatoes and cook again for 5 minutes.

Step 2

Add ginger and garlic to the pot and cook for 3 to 5 minutes.In a blender add all the spices and blend it.When all the spices are blend add the spices to the pot.When the masala turns to the gravy add 2 tbsp of water.

Step 3

Now add the yogurt and turn the flame high and cook for 5 minutes.Now add masoor daal and chanay (chickpea) and mix well.Now mash half of the chanay.Now add naking soda and fry for 2 minutes.

Step 4

now garnish with coriander, green chili, ginger and chaat masala.

Ingredients for making lassi

  • greek yogurt 1 cup
  • ice 10 cubes
  • ice water 1/2 cup
  • white sugar 3 tbsp
  • salt 1 pinch

Method of making

In a blendar add greek yogurt, ice cubes, ice water, white sugar, salt and blend for 10 to 15 minutes.Now add this into a glass and garnish with dry fruits.

Ingredients for making salad

  • onions 2 large thinly sliced
  • tomatoes 1 large thinly slices
  • cucumber 3 chopped
  • reddish 2 chopped
  • vinegar 6 tbsp
  • lemon juice 4 tbsp
  • salt 1 tsp

Method of making

Add all the ingredients in a bowl and mix well.Salad is ready.

  • serving 2 to 3 persons
