United Arab Emirates – Kanafeh / Kunafe

Kunafa or Kanafeh, is actually a sweet dish/ dessert from the United Arab Emirates. Kitab al tabikh is a book of Dishes from Persia and Arabs. The word Kunafa is mentioned in this book. Kitab Al Tabikh Al Magrib Wal Andalus is also a book from MAHGREB and ANDULAS. In this book, Kunafa is described as thin crust, crepes are made layered with Cheese and rose syrup, topped with nuts.

United Arab Emirates – Tharid / Thereed

This is the special dish from the cuisine of Arabs. In Dubai food festival, huge varieties of dishes are served and most famous among them is this ”THARID”. It is said that this dish is very authentic and from the back of the time, because this specific dish is mentioned in the Hadith of the specific Islamic sayings.

Syria, United Arab Emirates – Lamb Moussaka

Moussaka is a very common dish in the Middle East. It is a vegetable and meat layered dish. This dish is basically from SYRIA. It is very popular in BALKANS and MIDDLE EAST. The history and origin of the dish are not well recognized but it has many theories regarding the naming and etymology of this dish. There are many versions of the naming of this dish like in English word, it is said that the word Moussaka is taken from the Greek Word, mousakás.

The United Arab Emirates – Challah

Challah is a bread that is from the Eastern side of the European Origin. The term ”CHALLAH” is meant to be the kind of Bread and Cake. This bread is also known as ”SHABBAT BREAD”. Because on the Jewish festival Shabbat this bread is made and then serve to the Jewish members after prayer. The most traditional way to cook challah is from the plain wheat flour, eggs, salt, yeast, vegetable oil, sugar, and water to knead. There is much bread made up of similar ingredients but having some varieties and differences in shapes.

Baba Ghanoush is actually a starter/ appetizer dish that is also served as snacks and a side course. This is originated from Levantine cuisine from Lebanese. This is usually a vegetarian appetizer, which can be served according to the event like dinner or tea time snack

United Arab Emirates – Kabsa

This is known as MIXED RICE PLATTER also NATIONAL DISH OF ARABS. This dish is very versatile and popular in the UNITED ARAB EMIRATES. The word KABASA means to squeeze out. In this dish, this word means to cook all the elements like meat portion and vegetables with rice is squeezed in one pot. There are many varieties of KABASA served in UAE according to the different addition of ingredients.

The United Arab Emirates – Lamb Qoozi With Rice

Quzi is an Emirati dish made with rice and mostly with lamb meat, but there is a unique way to do it. The name of this dish is a word from the Turkish Language and Arabic languages. This dish is very famous in the Arabic world and even outside the UAE. This dish has different variations regarding to the culture and taste of that region.

United Arab Emirates – Baklava

Baklava is a pastry dish that is layered with the nuts filled in each layer or the center of each piece. This is more like a Filo pastry. Filo is a pastry of many thin layers. This dish is originated from Ottoman Empire. The word Baklava came from the Mongolian Language, also known as BAGLABA in the Persian language. Meaning of the word Baklava is ”TO TIE UP”, ”WRAP UP”.

United Arab Emirates – Beef Al Harees

This dish is a very healthy meal in UAE. Harees means SMASHED OR MASHED. According to the Patron Saint of Armenia, this meal is served for charity and poor children. This is the national dish of Armenia. The dish is served and cooked in many countries but with some variations according to the taste of that particular area.

The United Arab Emirates – Al Kabsa

Kabsa or kabsah is a rice dish in which many elements are included. This dish is from SAUDIA ARABIA and Emirati Cuisine. In GULF ARABIC, it is known as ”Makbus/ Machboos”. Kabasa means Squeeze so from this the word comes up with ”SQUEEZE ALL INGREDIENTS INTO ONE POT”.
