Pakistan – Ladoo Pethiyan

WHAT IS LADOO PETHIYAN?

Ladoo Pethiyan is a sort of street food usually famous in Punjab area of Pakistan especially in Lahore.

The word LADOO is usually used by the dessert, a methai made up of gram flour and alots of sugar but here it is salty version of ladoo made up of lentils and just with little cumin to make it aromatic than twist of the dish is to smoke these prepared laddo with charcoal to give the smoky flavors and aromatic.

Pethiyan is typically called in this is the sauces used to have with these salty ladoo. Many sauces we called as chutney are made like mint sauce, yogurt sauce, tamarind sauce, green chili sauce and the main ingredients to with these ladoos are served as with grated Radish.

PAKISTAN’S STREET FOOD

In Pakistan people have very craze about these delicious palatable dishes like the samosa chat, pakory, these ladoo pethiyan. When women in Pakistan went out of shopping they always get some time to have the taste of these amazing street food. The hawkers are roaming around having these amazing dishes to overcome anybody’s stress. Just have a bite and all the tension will ease out instantly.

ORIGIN OF THE DISH

This is purely a Pakistani dish and invented when the pakoras are made up of daal ( lentils) and then this dish is get famous so much and now it take all the country to admire the flavors. The taste of roasted lentils and crazy crunchy bite of the ladoo is just amazing delight of Lahore.

COMPONENT OF THE DISH

  • Ladoo
  • grated white radish
  • mint sauce
  • tamarind sauce
  • yogurt sauce
  • chat masala

INGREDIENTS OF LADOO

  • 1 cup soaked yellow lentils
  • 1 cup soaked gram lentils
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 tbsp baking soda
  • oil for frying

METHOD

  • Take the lentils that are soaked a night before or 6 to 12 hours so they soaked the water and get double in size.
  • Now add these two types of lentils in the blender, add salt and cumin seeds, baking soda and blend into thick paste by adding water if required.
  • Now heat up the oil and add a spoonful of the thick paste into oil, the heat of the oil turn the batter into round shape.
  • Deep fry until the crispy brown color appeared and take it out in the sieve until all the batter turned into the round crispy patties.

INGREDIENTS OF MINT SAUCE

  • 1 bunch mint
  • 1 bunch coriander
  • 3 green chilies
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 tsp oil
  • 1 tsp vinegar

METHOD

Take all the things together in the blender and blend it into the paste, add water if required.

INGREDIENTS OF TAMARIND SAUCE

  • 1 cup soaked tamarind
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp pepper
  • 3 tsp sugar
  • 1 tsp vinegar

METHOD

Take a cooking pot and tamarind with all the ingredients and cook it for about 10 to 15 minutes so the paste thickened and turn into sweet and spicy sauce, cool and serve it with the dish
